Social Media as an Air Guitar

This is what playing with Social Media feels like to me. Fun, satisfying as a fantasy but not extremely fulfilling as a reality.

Here I am, a creative-type, pregnant with ideas and somehow, when I go to post something this is what I give birth to. No matter how compelling the post, it never feels quite tangible or alive.

It’s a simultaneously obnoxious and joyful experience. It’s a ring-lit meal. A serving of your favorite food, one you can never truly sink your teeth into.

When I log off, I feel myself decompressing. I feel an absence of … something.

Maybe Social Media, in its current structure, is a temporary, ethereal thing, an air guitar. I feel like we’re all waiting to learn the actual instrument but in the meantime, we’re here, in this undefinable space, miming the possibilities …
